DoSomething.org is the largest not-for-profit for young people and social change and they approached us to help them pro-bono with their NYC offices. They moved from smaller cramped offices in Union Square to an area closer to Madison Square Park. We worked with DoSomething to help them do the minimal to the recycled offices so that they can focus their funding on their programming. However there is always room for design and we concentrated on two main design ideas; a recycled glass wall to define a social area and an insertion of a ceiling ‘milkway’ of hanging fluorescents and tools—a wave of energy unifying the two sides of the space which is comprised by two joined buildings. In the end, DoSomething.org moved into another space unrelated but we thought this study of space was worth sharing!
